The great Easter Egg hunt has hotted up with Debenhams department store promising availability of top branded eggs that have sold out at some supermarkets.
As Tesco's website shows a large number of their Easter Eggs as "unavailable" reports of Morrisons and Asda having similar problems with their most popular lines of eggs Debenhams reports sales are soaring - purchases of the chocolate treats are up 153% so far compared with last year.
Debenhams head of gift merchandising Richard Vanoli said: " Despite the unprecedented demand we have tried very hard to ensure that no Easter Egg hunter in our stores will leave disappointed.
"All our branches stock our eggs and we have 35 famous brands of chocolate eggs on our shelves from mainstream to luxury, including: Cadbury's, Galaxy, Malteaser, Thorntons, Lindt, Ferrero, Kinder and M&M's."
Currently the retailer has all giant chocolate eggs on a half price promotion - making large Cadbury eggs just £7 - £3 cheaper than Tesco.
"We are delighted that savvy shoppers are taking advantage of our great deals and flocking to us for their Easter chocolate. We have rushed in more supplies, but to avoid disappointment, we would urge any of our customers wanting to buy our half price giant eggs not to delay as they are selling very quickly."
We have increased our offerings for all special occasions during the year, whether it’s Fathers’ and Mothers’ Day, Halloween or Christmas”
Debenhams has also launched a competition this Easter giving one lucky customer the chance to win a £500 Debenhams gift card, as well as chocolate egg-filled hampers for 5 runners up including Easter favourites Lindt, Cadburys, Galaxy and more (worth £100 each) with a hunt for an egg poster in stores across UK and Ireland. To enter, photograph the egg and simply tweet your picture to @Debenhams or @DebenhamsIRE (ROI) using the hashtag #EggcellentHunt
