British retailer Debenhams launches its first department store in Latvia today, in a further step towards one of its key growth pillars to expand the brand internationally. Having opened the first Baltics Debenhams store in Estonia in 2013, this second store symbolises the continued interest in the Baltic region by the retailer.
Securing over 30,000 sq ft of retail space at the high-end Spice shopping centre in Riga, it marks the 67th international launch for Debenhams.
The store will offer Women’s, Men’s and Kids’ clothing and accessories ranges, along with homeware, beauty and lingerie from Designers at Debenhams including Julien Macdonald, John Rocha, Ben de Lisi, Jasper Conran and Jeff Banks.
Following great success in the UK, Latvian shoppers will also be able to snap up ‘Edition’, a collection of clothing, homeware and accessories, featuring the very best from Britain’s up and coming designers like Jonathan Saunders and Preen. Store services will also include Debenhams’ bra fit service, with a personal shopping facility also becoming available shortly after launch.

With impressive growth figures, the Spice shopping centre holds 21% of all Riga’s shopping malls turnover, with customer flow increasing 3% last year, with total turnover growth of 6%.
McAuley continues: “We aim to double the scale of our international business over the next five years. The opening of our second store in the Baltics marks the next step of our business expansion in the territory.
“We regard Spice as the pick of the shopping centres in Latvia, and therefore offers the best place for Debenhams to be represented.”
The Debenhams team, including 40 new recruits, has been putting the finishing touches to the Riga store, which has been 12 months in development. Over the past seven days the store has received more than 66,000 items of stock, including 250 coats, 1,000 fuller bras G-K cup, 560 pairs of jeans and 2,000 pieces of babywear.
The store will be officially opened by fashion royalty and Designer at Debenhams Ben de Lisi, who is flying in to help officiate the opening with a fashion show and VIP event.
Debenhams plans to open six stores in the Baltic states, and increase the number of its international franchise stores to 150 over the next five years.
